La Mussara

An uninhabited town where you can enjoy great views of the Camp de Tarragona

La Mussara is in the mountains of Prades, 990m up, close to the cliff of Airasses, from which there is a breathtaking view of the Camp of Tarragona and, on clear days, you can see the Ebro delta, and even the Balearic Islands. The highest part of the area is 1,071m above sea level.

The village had a rich and unique history. It is believed that the Saracen remains located in La Mussara show the existence of a garrison under the Vali of Siurana. The Arabic place-name supports this belief, which means ‘flat’. The documents talk about a village in 1173 and the church is named in the Bull of Celestine III in 1194. La Mussara has been part of Prades County since 1324.

The deserted village offers plenty of pleasant sensations - the magical and captivating location, but also in the history and distribution of buildings and the old village. Also, it is the starting or stop off point for a number of excursions that bring us to the most beautiful places in the mountains of Prades.
