A nice place to do walks and admire the landscape
In 1897, the City Council commissioned the Reus engineers Josep Mora, Alfons Benavente and a future president of the Generalitat, Francesc Macia, to produce a study on how to bring water to their citizens and their farmland.
After several proposals in 1903, the project Riudecanyes swamp came from the hand of the engineer and Sarachaga Cayetano Ubeda and work began shortly after it stopped. They remprendre 1907 below, where the current dam and committed to make it grow. The company management took the engineer José Pérez de Losada and Petinto, which he finished in 1918. The reservoir comes into service the following year, 1919.
The dam is a nice place to walk and admire the surrounding landscape. If we stop at the edge of the road that leads to Duesaigües to see the dam, heading towards the town of Riudecanyes, there's a pleasant surprise. The blue water of the reservoir appears close to the seawater, which shines from afar. There is a point where three of the best shades of blue that the Baix Camp can offer converge: that of fresh water, the changeable blue sea, and the clear sky that characterises Mediterranean villages.
