Legend says that ‘dips' were hidden in the mountains surrounding Colldejou and Pratdip. Dips were vampire-like black dogs which attacked flocks and drunken men walking at night. Some people say they disappeared during the eighteenth century although some other people say they are still living in these mountains ... Their image remains at the entrance to the town of Pratdip and it also appears on its official shield, together with the altarpiece of Santa Marina. The legend of the dips was represented in the novel Històries Naturals [Natural Stories], by Joan Perucho. The main character, Montpalau Antoni put his life at risk in order to save the village from the evil Pratdip Dip, in the context of the Carlist wars.
The mountain range of Llaberia also offered shelter to Pere Joan Barceló rebel, known as Carrasclet. His nickname is due to the use of charcoal, as Carrasclet and his brother went to Falset and Reus with a donkey to sell firewood and charcoal produced by his father. The guerrillas fought against the troops of Felipe V, during and after the War of Succession, which ended on September 11, 1714 with the loss of rights and freedom of the Catalan people. His good knowledge of these mountains helped him escaping his pursuers, even when they were surrounded in the village of Llaberia by the military troops. Carrasclet and his men crossed the enemy lines by taking advantage of holes, cracks and hiding places they knew so well. When the soldiers arrived in town couldn't see anybody from the guerrilla. He was one of the big characters of the Catalan lands and was killed fighting the Bourbons in Germany, at the age of 61 years with the rank of general, as it has recently been discovered.
The mountain range of Llaberia, steeped in history and legend, is waiting for you. Do you dare to have a walk through it?
Prades is famous for its potatoes, chestnuts and honey.
