Santa Caterina Church

In 1245 the archbishop granted permission to the inhabitants of Vinyols to build their own church, dedicated to St. Caterina of Alexandria.

The present church, built in the Baroque style between 1770 and 1778, is located on the previous one, has three spacecraft and has a cross plan with the main axis EO of 29.60 m and orientation axis NS of 26 , 30m. The cruise does not protrude and is crowned by a dome of half sphere that rests on four shells. The main ships are covered with barrel turns with lunettes and with edges in the sides, formed by arches of half point.

For its part, the facade has a height of 15.40m and a width of 19.70m; Minteras that the portalada, with two columns on each side and decoration of rock, has a large niche centered.

The bell tower, 36m high, is made up of three prisms. Steeple of belfry on the facade.

In 1982 the new presbytery was inaugurated, according to the major altar.

 

Free guided visits to the Church

Since July 2017, every first Sunday of the month, free guided visits to the Church are offered.

These visits are an initiative of the Vinyols i els Arcs Town Council which, through the Department of Culture, has established an agreement with the parish with the aim of disseminating and disseminating the artistic and architectural heritage of the municipality.
