IN THE SOUTH OF THE BARONY

Route suitable for walking or mountain biking allowing you to discover the southern parts of the Barony, from Riudecanyes to the castle-monastery, returning via Vilanova d’Escornalbou and L’Arbocet. A landscape full of contrasts, from the summit of Escornalbou to the agricultural villages lying at its feet, where work on the land is still part of everyday life.

Start the route

Go out of the village of Riudecanyes on the local path (PR) along the edge of the reservoir, but leave it soon, taking a road in the Mar de Riudecanyes development to the left. Before reaching the main road, take the Vilamanya path to the right, heading for the paved path between Duesaigües and the castle-monastery, marked as a local path (PR). Once at the top, go down the main road and take the path from the Castle to Vilanova d’Escornalbou on the right. Go through the village and leave on the main road before taking the path to Mont-roig on the right. Follow it as far as a sharp descent. Here, you stay on the level by taking the path to the left, which will take you to Arbocet. The outstanding features in this village are the two watchtowers: a round one, traditionally related to the Christians, and the other square one, associated with the Saracens. Leave the village on the livestock path to Montbrió, which you leave once you have crossed the Riudecanyes torrent, following the torrent upstream and heading north. Cross it again and carry on towards Riudecanyes on the Molins path, equipped with interpretation panels allowing you to recognise the village’s flour, rice and sulphur mills.
